A relaxed two-day beach break covering the lighthouse, three bays and a seafood dinner. Do not do this on a Monday if you want to climb the lighthouse.

Day 1Day 1: Arrive, lighthouse and sunset

Arrive in Thiruvananthapuram and head to Kovalam
Transport · at Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station
Take an app cab or auto from the station, about 30-45 minutes. A city bus is cheaper but slower.

Check in and rest
Stay · at Guesthouses and homestays near Lighthouse Beach
Pick a place within walking distance of the beach. Book early for December-January.

Climb the lighthouse
Sight · at Vizhinjam Lighthouse
Go later in the afternoon so the climb is cooler. Check the day's hours first, as it is closed on Mondays.

Sunset on the beach
Sight · at Lighthouse Beach
Walk the promenade and swim only inside the flagged area, if it is open.

Go early, stay between the flags and listen to the lifeguards.

Rocky, so wear sandals and keep to walking rather than swimming.

A short auto ride away. Photograph the boats and nets, but avoid swimming here.
