South Goa

Overview

South Goa is calmer than the north: wide beaches like Palolem and Agonda, boutique resorts, churches and old villages inland. It is a better fit for couples and families who want quiet. Fewer nightlife options, but beautiful stretches of sand and sunsets.

How to reach

• By rail

  Check station

  Madgaon is the main station for South Goa. Canacona is nearer Palolem on the Konkan line.

• By air

  30–60 min by road

  Dabolim (Vasco) airport is close to the southern beaches.

  Check before travel

  The waterfall is at its fullest in and after the monsoon, but the forest-department jeep safari is suspended during the rains and usually runs from about October to May. Walking along the railway tracks is illegal and dangerous, and the trek from Kulem has been restricted. Check current access with the Goa Forest Department.
