A relaxed three-day run: drive up to Lachung, spend one full day in the valley, and return to Gangtok. Keep a spare day in your wider Sikkim plan in case the road is blocked.

Costs are per-person estimates. Destinations: Yumthang Valley.

  1. Day 1Day 1: Gangtok to Lachung

    • 07:00

      Leave Gangtok early

Transport · at Gangtok pickup point for North Sikkim

Start in the morning with your permit sorted. In 2025 the cut-off to cross Sanklang bridge was 1 pm, so ask your operator what applies now.

    • 15:00

      Check in at Lachung

Stay · at Lachung village homestays

Settle in, layer up and rest. Take it easy on the first evening to adjust to the altitude.

    • 19:30

      Dinner at your stay

Food · at Lachung home-style meals

Order early, eat light and tell your host about dietary needs.

  2. Day 2Day 2: Yumthang Valley day

    • 07:30

Sanctuary stop on the way up

Sight · at Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary

Best in late April and May for flowers. Stop for photos while the light is soft.

    • 09:00

      Walk in the valley

Sight · at Yumthang Valley meadows

Spend an hour or two on foot. Carry water, gloves and a rain jacket.

    • 10:30

      Hot spring stop

Activity · at Yumthang hot spring

Optional and basic. Bring a towel and spare clothes, and check it is open.

    • 11:30

Zero Point, only if open and you feel fine

Sight · at Zero Point (Yumesamdong)

About 2 hours further. Skip it if the weather turns, the road is shut or anyone has altitude symptoms.

  3. Day 3Day 3: Back to Gangtok

    • 07:30

      Drive back to Gangtok

Transport · at Gangtok pickup point for North Sikkim

Leave early after breakfast. In 2025 returning vehicles had to cross Toong by 2 pm. Confirm the current rule and keep slack for landslide delays.
