A relaxed three-day trip with one night in Chitkul. It assumes you reach the Baspa Valley turn-off by early afternoon, either by an early start from Shimla or a night at Rampur or Sarahan. Best from April to June and September to mid-October.

Costs are per-person estimates. Destinations: Chitkul.

  1. Day 1Day 1: Up the Baspa Valley

    • 13:00

      Turn off NH5 at Karcham

      Transport · at Karcham Junction

      Reach the junction by early afternoon. Check road status for the Sangla stretch before you leave your previous stop.

    • 15:00

      Tea and cash stop in Sangla

      Transport · at Sangla Bus Stand

      Withdraw cash, buy water and snacks, and ask about road conditions ahead.

    • 17:30

      Check in at a Chitkul homestay

      Stay · at Chitkul Village Homestays

      Rest, drink water and take it slowly on the first evening because of the altitude.

    • 18:00

      Evening at Mathi Temple

      Sight · at Mathi Temple

      Short visit before dark. Remove footwear and avoid leather.

  2. Day 2Day 2: A slow day in the village

    • 07:30

      Morning walk by the river

      Activity · at Baspa Riverside Walk

      Go early for quiet light and empty meadows.

    • 10:00

      Wander the old lanes

      Sight · at Old Kinnauri Village Lanes

      Look at the wooden houses and ask before photographing people.

    • 13:00

      Lunch and chai at the riverside dhaba

      Food · at Hindustan ka Aakhri Dhaba

      Keep it simple: maggi, dal-rice or rajma.

    • 18:30

      Second evening at the homestay

      Stay · at Chitkul Village Homestays

      Dinner, bonfire if offered, and stargazing. Wear warm layers.

  3. Day 3Day 3: Head down

    • 07:30

      Early breakfast

      Food · at Hindustan ka Aakhri Dhaba

      Eat before leaving so you can start with a buffer for road delays.

    • 10:00

      Back through Sangla

      Transport · at Sangla Bus Stand

      Break the drive at Sangla. Onward buses and shared taxis leave from here.

    • 12:00

      Rejoin NH5 at Karcham

      Transport · at Karcham Junction

      From here go on to Kalpa and Reckong Peo, or back towards Rampur and Shimla.
