A relaxed two-day plan for first-time visitors that starts with the Taj at opening and avoids the Friday closure. Check the day of the week before you book.

Day 1Day 1: Taj, fort and river sunset

  Arrive at Agra Cantt

  Take an early train from Delhi and use a prepaid taxi or app cab to reach your hotel. Not a Friday plan.

  Allow 2–3 hours. Start with the main courtyards, then head to the viewpoint for the Taj.

  Evening chaat and sweets

  Try chaat and petha at a busy stall. Buy sealed petha for the trip home.

  Sunset at Mehtab Bagh

  Reach before sunset for the river view of the Taj. Check the closing time at the gate.

  Check in near the Taj
  Stay · at Taj Ganj guesthouses
  A guesthouse around Taj Ganj lets you walk to the gate at dawn.
Day 2Day 2: Taj at opening, then Fatehpur Sikri

  Taj Mahal at opening

  Gates open about 30 minutes before sunrise. Buy the ₹200 mausoleum ticket only if you want to enter. Carry a small bag.

  Have bedai, kachori or jalebi, then pack and check out.

  A cab is about 1–1.5 hours each way. Carry water and plan around 2–3 hours on site.

  Book an evening train or road transfer, leaving buffer for delays.
