Overview
Neemrana is a small town in Alwar district, on NH48 between Delhi and Jaipur. It is known for the Neemrana Fort Palace, a 15th-century hill fort that now works as a heritage hotel. Non-guests can visit by buying a day ticket that includes a lunch buffet. A free stepwell (baori) sits close to the fort. India's first zip-line tour runs across the Aravalli outcrop here. Most people come from Delhi NCR for a day or an overnight stay. The cooler months, October to March, are the most comfortable. Summers are very hot. The town itself is basic, so plan your meals and transport in advance.

How to reach
By road from Delhi / Gurugram
Fuel for a Delhi round trip + tolls: roughly ₹1,000–1,500Neemrana is on NH48 (Delhi–Jaipur highway). Sources give about 108–130 km from Delhi, depending on the start point. Allow roughly 2–3 hours. The usual route is Gurugram, Manesar, Dharuhera, Bawal, then Neemrana. Gurugram–Manesar traffic is the slow part, so an early start helps. From Gurugram it is roughly 90 km.
By bus
Bus from Gurugram/Delhi: roughly ₹250–800Private and Rajasthan roadways buses run along the Delhi–Jaipur corridor and stop at Neemrana. Some private operators also run services from Gurugram. Timetables and fares change, so check the operator's app or the RSRTC site before you go.
By train
Local cab from station: roughly ₹500–1,500Neemrana has no station of its own. The nearest railheads mentioned are Behror, Ateli and Rewari. You then need a cab or auto for the last stretch, so the train only suits you if you are happy with that extra leg. Book on IRCTC.
By air
Airport taxi: roughly ₹2,500–4,500Delhi's IGI Airport is the nearest big airport, about 110–130 km by road. Jaipur airport is roughly 150 km away. Pre-book a taxi from either.
Where to stay
Neemrana Fort Palace
₹8,000–25,000+ / night (varies a lot by season and room)A heritage hotel built into a hill across many levels. It suits a splurge, a special occasion or a quiet weekend. Day visitors can have the buffet ticket adjusted against a room if they decide to stay. Book through the hotel's own website and check the current rates.
Highway hotels and guesthouses
₹1,500–4,000 / nightNeemrana is also an industrial town, so there are plain business-style hotels along NH48. They are fine for a short overnight stop. Check recent reviews for cleanliness and noise. Facilities in town are limited.
Day trip instead of staying
Saves ₹1,500–10,000+ on lodgingMany travellers from Delhi NCR do Neemrana as a long day trip. That saves the room cost entirely. You can also pair it with a night in Alwar or Jaipur.
Things to do
Walk the fort's terraces and courtyards
Day ticket with lunch: roughly ₹1,500–2,000The fort has many levels, with courtyards, terraces and views over the Aravallis. Allow 2–4 hours. Wear comfortable shoes because there are plenty of stairs. Sources mention lifts at some levels, but check on the day if mobility is a concern.
Zip-line tour (Flying Fox)
Roughly ₹1,000–2,500 per person (sources differ)Five zip lines cross the hillside, the longest about 400 m. The full tour takes roughly 2–2.5 hours, and a shorter two-line option is offered. You get a safety briefing and a practice line first. Book ahead and arrive early. Age, weight and weather limits apply.
Descend the Neemrana Baori
FreeA deep stepwell near the fort, with many tiers of steps. There are no tickets and it is a good photo stop. Go early in the morning. The steps can be slippery and parts are neglected, so go carefully and avoid it after dark.
Vintage car ride and shopping
Car ride: roughly ₹1,000–1,500 (check on the day)Some travel sites mention vintage car rides and a shop selling crafts and home items at the fort. Availability and prices change, so ask at the reception on the day.
Food
Lunch buffet at the fort
Included in the day ticket, roughly ₹1,400–1,500The day ticket usually includes a buffet of North Indian and some continental dishes, served around midday. It is the most reliable sit-down meal for visitors, but it is the main part of what you pay for. Check hours when you book.
Highway dhabas on NH48
₹150–400 per personFor a cheaper meal, the dhabas on the Delhi–Jaipur highway serve parathas, dal, sabzi and chai. Pick a busy one for fresh food. Carry bottled water.
Dal baati churma
₹200–450 per personThis is the standard Rajasthani meal. Some highway restaurants serve it, though quality varies. Ask for it hot and fresh.
Safety & permits
Permits & entry
No special permit for Indian visitors
Rules and prices change. Confirm on the official hotel site.Indian citizens do not generally need a permit to visit Neemrana. Carry a photo ID, which hotels require at check-in. Day visitors to the fort pay at the gate or book on the hotel's website. Sources disagree on day-visit hours (some say 9 am–2:30/3 pm, others up to 5 pm) and on ticket prices, so confirm with the hotel before you leave.
Baori timings: sources disagree
Rules change. Confirm with official tourism sources.Incredible India lists 10 am–5 pm for the Neemrana Baori. Other travel sites say it is open all the time and free. Plan for daylight hours and check locally.
Zip line rules
Rules change. Confirm with the operator. The operator sets age, weight and health limits and may cancel in bad weather. These are not government permits, but they apply. Confirm before booking.
Safety notes
The Delhi–Jaipur highway is busy, so avoid driving after dark and watch for slow trucks. Take care on the stepwell's slippery steps, and don't go there alone after dark. Summer afternoons are very hot, so carry water. Fort stairs are steep. Use only the operator's staff and equipment for the zip line.
Phone network & ATMs
Mobile networks are generally fine along NH48 and in town. Signal may be patchy inside thick fort walls and in the stepwell. There are ATMs in Neemrana and Behror, but carry some cash for dhabas and autos.
